DEATH DUTIES RESOLUTIONS

During the discussion in the House of Commons on the death and succession duties resolutions. Mr 0. J. O'Donnell, Liberal member for Walworth, intimated that he was for the first time voting against the Government, because he would be not party to bleeding capital white. The Right Hon. A. J. Balfour, Leader of the Opposition, emphasised the fact that the real danger of the scheme was the graduation and the temptation it afforded to increasingly tax the few. Mr Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, mainained that the Budget was fair to all classes. The money spent on social reform, he said, would increase the efficiency of the capital of the country.
