Ransford gave a short but bright display of fine cutting. The third wicket fell for 73, and the fourth for 108. Armstrong was missed in the slips j by Relf when he had scored a dozen. Buckenham, in the next over, bowled , Trumper with a yorker for a duck. Five for 108. j After lunch Armstrong was missed i by Relf at point off Tarrant's first over. Macartney, who joined him, playing judiciously, hit five fourers, and the pair in 45 minutes added 50. Then the Sydneyite, who had shown excellent cricket, was bowled by Thompson.
