THE STEAMER AEON.
By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 19. H.M.S. Cambrian visited Christmas Island on 4th March, and found the bow of the wrecked steamer Aeon fas*: on the reef. The remainder •of the vessel had either sunk or been carried away by the tide. The beach was strewn with goods from the wreck, but the merchandise was mostly ruined by water or buried in the sand; No attempt had been made to board the wreck. Nothing of value was exposed, leading to the conclusion that the entire cargo had disappeared. The Cambrian officers doubted the story that pirates had looted the ship. The Honolulu expedition arrived shorty after the Cambrian's visit. It is expected they would get a full load of stuff of more or less value. There is no further news of the Auckland expedition.
