[{From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. PAHIATUA-AKITIO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. That keen interest has been taken in the formation of the PahiatuaAkitio A. and P. Associationn Society was evident last evening by the large and representative gathering that assembled at the Trocadero for the first annual meeting. The scrutineers for the General Committee had quite a long task before them, and about ten o'clock the names of the successful twenty-one was announced as follows:—Messrs T, Boyd, A. McFariane,R. E. Ellingbam, C. Avery, W. D. Taylor, J. Manson, V. Prosser, A. Yule, T. Quirk, J. D. Wilson, A. Ross, J. McCarthy, P. J. Quirk, J. Matthews, r .J. Brechin, Mitchell, R. Smith, J. Breeds, P. Halliday, J. B. Westlake and W. I. Husband. With a committee such as the above, most of whom have had previous experience, the Society should have no trouble in bringing the first show to a successful issue.
The question of site was fully discussed, and the recommendation of the incoming committee, is to secure a site between tie Bmu s h bridge and the Railway Station, and'a site In this vicinity should prove suitable. When Mr J. C. Cooper took the chair as President, he thanked the members for placing him in that position, and asked that $ hearty Tote of thanks be accord to Mr W. Tosswill, Who had taken the chair at the meetings, and helped in many #ays towards the formation o£ the Society. After the general mcetirg, the committee met, and a sub-committee ■was appointed to [draw up a schedule Of duties for the secretary. It was decided to call for applications for a secretary, thu matter, to be dealt with at the meeting of the committee in a fortnight's time in Mr W. I. Hus!band's office.
GENERAL. Court Pahiatua, A.0.F., met last evening, Bro. G. Yule, C.R., presiding. Two new members were initiated into the Order, and three proposed for membership.* A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr McAlister, for the loan of a piano at the recent social. After the usual routine business had been transacted, all the members present sat down to a quiet game of cards. Mangatainoka Juniors play Makakahi Juniors at feotball at Eketahuna, on Saturday next, and the Nireaha and Hubanui Juniors will meet at Hukanui on the same day. At the meeting of the Pahiatua Fire Brigade, last evening, Mr T. Clarke was eteoted a member of the Brigade. The drawing of the art union will take place on July 14th, The ballast train, has been busy ballasting the line between the Ngawapurua bridge and Konini. The metal is being procured from the x Manawatu river"" above the
bridge. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle at their P.F,A. yards yesterday. Prices were good, cattle showing a slight rise. Quotations were as follows:—2-year steers, £2 17s 6d to £3 6s; 18-month steers, £2 10s; 3-year steers, £4 to £4 lis; fat cows, £3 lis; weaners, 15s to 17s* 6d; store cows, £6 10s to £2; 2-yeac speyed heifers, £2 ss. Sheep: were also in demand at last sale rates,- as below:—4 and 5year ewes in lamb, 10s to lis; f.m. ewes in lamb, 7s to 8s 3d; 2-tooth wethers, 10s 3d ~to 10s 6d; shorn lambs, 7s to 8s 3d woolly lambs, 9s 9d; cull lamhs, 5s 6d. They also report submitting a 200-acre l.i.p. property at Maku, the successful bidder being Mr Murphy, of Ballance, at £5 2a 6d per acre.
