PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. Mr G. H. Brown, of Mangarama, who has been in a delicate state of lealth for the last six months, has been ordered to Australia by his medical adviser. Ha will leave for Sydney in about a fortnight's time. The funeral of the late Mrs George Pearcy took place at the Mangatainoka Cemetery, this afternoon. Tee cortege being a large one. A husband and one son are left to mourn her loss. Pahiatua of late has been overrun with picture companies, and an average of about two a week of the above entertainments have been given in the local theatre. A meet of the Palm-rston North Branch of the W-odlands Hunt Club will be held at Palmsraton North tomorrow. The Presbyterian L Choir is at present practising the choral cantata "The Pets of Carnelian," which will be rend'ii-id in about a month's time in aid of the Sunday School

Renovation Fund. The Pahiatua Gun Club have just received a massive silver cup for competition amongst the members. The cup, which is a \e> .• n bouit one, and mounted on a u:and, was presented by Messrs Whyte and Mackay. of Glasgow, Scotland. As showing the difference between this season and last, from a dairying point of view, a dairy farmer at Mangatainoka informed me to-day that this season he had milked six less cows than last season, while the quantity of milk supplied to the factory was fully ten per cent, in excess of that supplied last season. s For the first time for several years the healthy pastime of skating was indulged in last evening in the Olympic Theatre, a large crowd being present. The first football match in connection with the Junior fixtures, will, I understand, be played or Saturday next. ~ Mrs John Vile, a very old and inspected resident of this town, and formerly, of the Wairarapa, is rearing the ripe age of 92, her 92nd birthday being on Saturday, 22nd inst. At the meeting of the Pahiatua District High School Committee, last evening, it was decided to do something in connection with beautifying the Schoolgrounds, and a committee was appointed to carry out arrangements therewith in' conjunction with the Headmaster. The first annual meeting of the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association was held here this (Tuesday) evening, when about fifty members were present, representing all parts offthe district' The officers elected were as follows'.—President, Mr J. C. Cooper; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. Tosswill, W. Norrell, Captain Whyte and F. Bolton; Treasurer, Mr G. A. Burgess; Auditor, Mr G. A. Millar. It was decided to call applications for the position of secretary. In regard to the question of the site for the new showgrounds, it was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that a site be obtained between the railway station and the Borough boundary, and also that the tenure be freehold or with the right to acquire the freehold. The Association has now a membership of about 250.
