ARMS FOR AFGHANS.
SOLD WITHOUT PRECAUTIONS. CALCUTTA, May 14. Regarding the statement by the Commonwealth Defence Minister that discarded rifles are twisted and flattened beyond repair before sale, the Calcutta newspaper "Englishman" insists that Martini rifles bearing~the Australian mark were smuggled as cabled, and found mostly in the hands of the largest frontier tribe. The "Englishman" suggests that originally part of the consignment was sold to Australia by the Indian Government, and subsequently, when the weapons were discarded, sold in the open market without precautions.
