THE BUDGET PROPOSALS. DAILY PROTESTS. _ o t United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. LONDON, May 14. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Lloyd-George) U daily receiving deputations to protest against the Budget. Cigarmakers complain that the reduction in the size of English cigars will necessitate new moulds, which are only obtainable in Germany. It will take three months to obtain them. Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, estimates the total annual produce of the additional spirit tax at £9,224,245, of which £4,539,083 will be derived from Scotland. Received May 16, 4.30 p.m. LONDON, May 16. Speaking in the House of Lords Lord Aldenham declared that the Budget would tend to drive capital abroad, and it was most undesirable that the majority of the people who pay no taxes and commanding the bulk of representation should be encouraged to put the whole burden on the few.
