As the distance from the corner mentioned to the proper entrance ic only about three chains, it is to be ■ hoped that all those going to the football matches in the future will enter by the proper entrance, and not give the caretaker needless work in mending fences. Plans have been designed for a grandstand to be erected on the Woodv'ille Recreation Ground. A similar structure on the local ground would be a great benefit to those attending cricket ' and football maehes.

The funeral of the late Mrs Petrie took place at Mangatainoka, yesterday, afternoon, and the cortege included'a large number of residents. ■- Mr Joseph Stokes, who'has been ill in the Hospital has sufficiently recovered to allow of his being brought home again to his father's residence. A business that is rapidly expanding in this town is ' that conducted by Mr J. K. Carpenter, boot and shoe importer. Closa attention to business, combined with dependable goods and reasonable prices has served to build up a . large clientele, not only in Pahiaua, but throughout the whole of the surrounding districts. For the coming winter -weather Mr Carpenter has made a •special importation of thoroughly serviceable footwear for men* women and children, and as he purchased the goods' from the manufacturers for spot cash, received a special discount, on ordinary rates. His customers, are to share in this saving in the way of cheaper prices, but with no deterioration in the quality of the goods.
