DISCARDED RIFLES.
WHERE THEY GO TO. Received May 14, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE.. May 14. Enquiries show that about 1903 several thousand discarded Martini rifles were sold by auction, and were purchased by a Melbourne firm and in 1906 between eight and nine thousand were sold to Greener's, the English firm of gunmakers. The Federal Minister of Defence was surprised at learning this, and has now issued instructions that no old rifles shall be sold unless they are first rendered absolutely useless
