A teamster named Finne'gan crawled into a house at Reefton with terrible wounds on his head, and in a critical condition. He stated that a Syrian attacked him with an axe, he supposed with the intention of robbing him. A heap of wood was collected near the scene of the attack, and it is believed the Syrian meant to cremate Finnegan's body after murdering him. The Syrian has hot yet been captured, though'he is suffering from a shot wound inflicted by one cf his pursuers.
