LONDON WOOL SALES.
KEEN COMPETITION. ADVANCE IN PRICE OF CROSSBREDS. Received May 10, 5.55 a.m. LONDON, May 9. At the wool sales there was keen competition, Americans and Germans being good buyers. Best merinos are now 10 per cent. higher, and fine to medium crossbreds 10 to 15 per cent, higher than at the close of the last sales. The following were *u>e average prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips named: —Tekoa, 12|dperlb; Ngakonui, 13£ d; Whatataroa, 8d; Kaingaroa, lid; Puket ti. 13£ d. The total quantity catalogued to date is 4 6,420 bales, of which 45,128 have been sold.
The High Commissioner, in a cab'e message to the Department of Industries and Commerce, dated London, Bth May, reports:—"The wool market is firm at the advance." Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following advices by able from London, dated 6th instant: —"The wool sales continue firm with an upward tendency. Prices for merino wools are at par to 5 per cent, higher, except for short and faulty descriptions, which are unchanged. American buyers arc operating freely. Merino and crossbred wools, 40's and over, and wools suitable for America, 10 to 15 per cent, higher, as compared with the closing rates of March series. The advance in prices is very marked in the case of crossbred wools of medium quality."
