PRICES FIRM. STRONG AMERICAN COMPETITION. LONDON, May 7. The wool market shows great animation. There is strong American competition for all sorts. At yesterday's wool sales merinos were finh at from 5 to 1\ per cent, above March prices. Americans operated freely, paying extreme prices for crossbreds. Sales included—"Gear," 9Jd per lb; "Wharanui," ll|d; "Arowat," 14|d. The Bradford "tops" market is very firm, and the high prices ruling are checking business. Common 40's are quoted at 13d per lb; 46's. 15d; common 60's, 26d; super 60's, 27d; 64's, 28d.
