CONDEMNED MUTTON.

AN EXPLANATION. Receiyed May 7. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, May 7. . In reference to the shipment ofAustralian mutton recently condemned in London enquiries go to show that it was shipped to Melbourne to the order of a firm of Sydney exporters. After having been twice officially inspected the mutton was of good condition. The principal of the firm concerned stated;that he cannot understand the reasons for the condemnation of the meat. Ihey had been shipping for years, |and never had a complaint in regard to the meat question. The ewe mutton was officially classed second grade, and the carcases averageJ 47 pounds each. He stated that the cannot see how it was possible to describe the meat as wasted and emaciated.
