MASTERTON HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
LADIES' BRACELET. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a very successful race from Palmerston North yesterday afternoon, all the birds being nominated by ladies. The prizes were a handsome gold bracelet and a gold brooch. The number of entries exceeded the most sanguine expectations of the members of the Club, the splendid total of 80 nominations being received. This number would have been exceeded, but for the fact that the members had no more birds trained in that direction. The secretary of the Manawatu Flying Club at Palmerston North kindly liberated the pigeons at 12.15 p.m., and the winning bird "Manchester," nominated by Mrs W. Horton, timed in at Mr J. Bradbury's loft at 1.7 p.m., having cove rod the distance of 42 miles airline in 52 minutes, registering the splendid velocity of 1,392 yards per minute. The success of "Manchester" came somewhat as a surprise to the owner, as it was the first time he had been entered in a race. Messrs J. Syverston and F. B. Rosson acted as judges, and the following is the result-—-Mrs W. Horton's "Manchester," velocity 1,392 yards per minute 1 Miss Gladys Dixon's "Ginger Ale," velocity 1,371 yards per minute 2 Mrs Harding's "Substance," velocity 1,313 yards per minute 3 Mrs E. H. Lett's Serf 11., 1,303 yards per minute 4 Miss B. Billingtoti's "The Pilot," velocity 1,109 yards per minute 5 Miss E. Morris' "Autocrat," ' velocity 1,100 yards per minute 6 Representatives from five other lofts were also "clocked in" but were not very close up. -The winning bird was owned bv Mr J. Bradbury, the second bird by Mr Joseph Dixon, the third bird by Mrs H. M. Wilton, the fourth by Mr H. Lett, the fifth by Mrs H. Billington, and the sixth by Mr W. Hoar. The ladies nominating the first and second birds will be presented with ' the bangle and brooch, respectively, at the'social proposed to be held +o wind up the season. Next Thursday the Club will hold a race from Woodville for Mr J. Dixon's trophy.
