LONDON WOOL SALES.

MERINOS HIGHER. CROS3BREDS STRONG AT THE ADVANCE. .Received May 6, 12.15 p.m. LONDON, May 5. The wool salesjare animated. Merinos are fully 5 per cent, above the March prices. Crossbreds are strong at yesterdays' advance.

Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cable message from their London house under date of the 4th inst.: —"Wool sales opened with a large attendance cf buyers. Competition was animated, but only a poor selection was offering. Prices for medium crossbreds are from 7| per cent, to 10 per cent, higher, for coarse crossbreds 5 per cent, higher, and for merinos and fine crossbreds 5 per cent, higher. So far hardly any mreino wools have been offered." The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, May sth: — The wool sales commenced with a strong market. There was a large attendance buyeis, Americans competing keenly for crossbreds. Merino 3 and coarse crossbreds, all grades, were a halfpenny, and fine crossbreds, of all grades, and medium crossbreds, of all grades, one penny higher .than last sale. The prospects are favourable. At the last sales,* on March 27th, 1909, the prices realised were as follow : Merinos: Superior, Is to Is 2d; medium, lOdtols; inferior, 7d to 9|d. Crossbreds: Fine, Is to Is 3d; medium. 9«d to 11 Ad; coarse, 6|d to 9Ad." Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable" gram from . London"The sales have opened with strong competition, and a large attendance of buyers. The uiarket is strong foxall descriptions of crossbreds, and prices for medium and fine are Id to Hd higher, whilst coarse crossbreds are par to 5 per cent, higher.
