A MYSTERY OF THE SEA.

During the hearing of the appeal, brought by Captain Naylor against a portion of the verdict at the Penguin marine inquiry, Mr Myers, for the Marine Department, asked, "Is it surprising to you that the Penguin has not been located?" and Captain Naylor answered "No, because the Department has never looked for her." Every effort should certainly be put forward to ascertain the location of the Penguin. As a matter of fact it is not known where she struck, or what sne struck. She may have struck Tom's Rock, as ..was generally supposed at the time of the Marine Court inquiry, or a submerged derelict, and in this connection the Rio Loge has been suggested, or she may have fcven struck an uncharted rock. In the interests of public safety, and almost as an act of justice to Captain Naylor, the Marine Department should make every effort possible to discover the location of the ill-fated Penguin.
