, ; (From Our Resident Reporter). Monday. The want of a band rotunda in one of the squares was keenly felt yesterday by the members ot the Brass Band. If a rotunda were erected, it would be an ornament to the town, as well as a little encouragement for the band to give openair concerts. A weak team of Pahiatua footballers journeyed to MangaUinoka on Saturday last, to try conclusions with the Mangatamoka Club. Playing with two men short Pahiatua were early in difficulties, and when the game ended Mangatainoka had 19 points to their credit against 3 scored by the Pahiatua team. A feature of the same was the dashing play of the winners* forward division. Mr R. Williams was referee. A return match between the clubs will piobably take place on the Recreation Ground on Saturday next, when it is to be hoped that the local club will put a full team in the field. The splendid weather experienced here for the past week has to-clay broken,, a warm northerly rain falling this afternoon. The congregation at the confirmation service held by Arci bishop Redwood at the Catholic Church yesterday afternoon was one of the largest ever seen here, the Church being literally packed. The Borough Council will meet in the Council Chambers on Wednesday
evenjrg.. Before the Borough Council election took place several aspirants for Municipal honours agitated for more light in some of the back streets. Probably there is no place requires light so much as the Borough bridge, this bridge being long and narrow, and lights placed at both ends and the centre would be a boon to the travelling public. Mr Norton, the local Postmaster, has just returned from a month's holiday up worth. Mr Norton looks much benefited by his trip. The local Fire Brigade intend to test a coupling for Fire Brigade purposes, patented by Messrs Gore and Boynes, of this town. The Kotoroa Ladies' Hockey Club are getting a good team together this year. They intend to hold a social about the middle of the present month. Ac a meeting of the Woodlands Hani Club in the Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening, it was decided to apply to the Racing Conference for either August 4th or 11th as the date on which to hold the Club's annual steeplechase meeting. The Fancy Fair in aid of St. Peter's Vicarage will be opened in the Drill Hall to-morrow afternoon.
