Mr J. Goodall, of the Napier railway staff, has been retired on superannuation, after 25 years' service. . Mr Alfred Hili, who has been seriously ill for some time past, was reported yesterday morning to be doing well. Mr and Mrs David Milligan, of Wellington, who are making a tour of the world, were in Egypt last month. Mr W. W. Tanner, ex-M.P. for Avon, was the recipient of a testimonial from his former constituents last evening. Mr Harry Holmes, of Matahiwi, Masterton, will leave next Friday for Sydney, en route for Canada. He will travel to Vancouver in the Makura. Mr John Harker, of Waipawa, is dead; aged seventy. He was (states a Press (Association message) regarded as the father of Liberalism in Hawke's bay. The Very Rev. Dean McKenna, ■who has been for the last two or three weeks on a health recruiting trip to Rotorua and the Auckland district, is expected to return to Masterton on Monday next. The Provincial Superior of the Brigidine Order, who is at present paying a visit to St. Bride's Convent, Masterton. is a sister of 'the Most Eev. Dr. Miller. Bishop of Johannesburg. Miss Beard, of Greytown, who has taken up her residence in Wellington, was presented on severing her connection with the Greytown Orchestral Society, with a gold and pearl brooch and silver scent-holder recognition of her services as """pianiste to the orchestra for many years. A very old resident of New Zealand has just passed away in the person of pilot Seabury, of Foxtot!. He landed in Wellington 48 years and spent two years on coasting vessels. For seven years he . was assistant pilot at Wanganui, and head pilot at Foxton for 33 years, retiring from the last position six years ago. Mr Seabury, who was born at Upaala. Sweden, served, in his youth, in the United States Navy, but left the American service on the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, and served with the British through the Mutiny.
The numerous frienc's in the Wairarapa of Mr David Cadenhead will regret to hear of his death. For a number of years the deceased resided in Featherston, and worked at his trade of carpenter and contractor. He lived at Pirinoa for a time, and from there he went to live with a married daughter in Wellington, Mrs Adam Donald. The deceased, who was 76 years of age, was a member of the Loyal Unity Lodge of OddfeJlows, for a number of years, and was its oldest member. Mr J. Cadenhead, of Carterton, is a son, and Mrs J. Crawley, of South CartertoD, a daughter, of the deceased.
