A SENSATIONAL INCIDENT.
NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. By Telegraph —-Press Association. NAPIER, May 1. There was a sensational incident at the breakwater at mid-day to-day. Two youths named Harold Funke, son of the manager of the Hawke's Bay Soap and Tannsry Company's works at Awatoto, and his cousin Bert' Jones, a visitor from Onehunga, were photographing a heavy sea, when a wave lifted them off their feet. They drifted some distance, but fortunately were able to swim. A man named Tonkin, employed by the Ferro Concrete in to the rescue, with a line an d plank, and through his gallantry botlvyouths were saved. Jones was pretty well exhausted, but quickly recovered.
