LOCAL BODIES AND CHARITABLE AID.
RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE. The statement of receipts an d expenditure of the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitabe Aid Board for the year ending 31st March, 1909, was placed before members at the last meeting of the board. The figures are interesting as showing how an excess of expenditure in one district is counter-balanced by a credit balance in another. A notable instance ■of the difference between expenditure and the receipts occurred at Petone Borough Council, whose apportionment for last year was £147 2s, and which received from the board a sum of almost £SOO. Carterton, again, contributed £22 9s and expended £143 15s 4d, and afe Mauriceville, where the County Council's contribution was £52 Is, it received from the board £l7O 14s Id. The following figures refer to the Wairarapa and Forty-Mile Bush districts, the receipts for the year 1908 being mentioned first, with the expenditure in parenthesis:—Featherston County Council,. £299 19s (£127 8a); Pahiatua, £216 13s 4d (£ll6 lis 6d); Wairarapa South County Council, £l9O 3s (£77 ss); AHtio County Council, £92 7s (£22); Eketahuna County Council, £6O 12s 4d (£6B 19s 6d); Mauriceville County Council. £52 Is (£l7O 14s Id); Carterton Borough Council, £22 9s (£143 15s 4d); Greytown Boroueh i Council, £lB 4s (£57 18s Id) ;■ Pahiatua Borough Council, £25 8s (£95 2s Id); Eketahuna Borough Council, £lB 2s 4d (£l6 7s 6d); Featherston Town Board £8 Is ,(£46 4s MK
