HOCKEY.

HUIA v. RAMBLERS. A match was played on the Showgrounds, yesterday afternoon, betweenjthe Huia and Masterton Ramblers Club, and resulted in a win for the latter by three goals to n3. Misses Easthope, O'Leary and Dnggan scored the goals. Mr B. Iveson was referee. KNOX v. W.F.C.A. The Knox Senior team suffered defeat at the hands of W.P.C.A. Senior team by 4 goals to nil on the Showgrounds yesterday. The goals for the winners were scored by Dickson,. Pragnell, La Roche and Whitt. The losing team was not fully represented several of their backs being absent. The game was controlled by Mr P. B. Rosson.

JUNIOR MATCH. W.F.C.A. v. KNOX. W.F.C.A. Junior team Juniors on the Showgrounds by £ goals to 2 goals. During the first half play was fairly even, but in tbs latter part of the game Knox were principally on the defensive. Neither of the teams were fully represented Knox playing with eight men and W.F.C.A. with ten.^Johnson, Potter, Byrn and Parker scored the goals for the winning team, and Person for the losers. WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Hockey Association was hold last evening, Mr E. R. B. Daniel being in the eta The resigation of Mr A.C. Pragnell as secretary was received with rsgret, and it was decidedftojjhold over the appointment of a new secretary for a week. It was decided that members of the Referee Association be allowed to attend meetings of the Management Committee, but have no voting power. It was resolved thslfc the Referees Association appoint referees for the Cup matches.

The following new rule should be of interest to local players of hockey .-—Penalty corner—A player of]the attacking team shall have a hit from any point on the goal line he may choose, and at the moment of such hit all the defending team (their sticks and feet) must be behind their own goal line; also all the attacking team must be outside the striking circle in the field of play. Provided that no player shall stand within five yards of the striker when a penalty corner hit is taken, and that no penalty corner hit shall be taken at a less distanpe than five yards , from the nearest goal post, and that no goal can be scored from a corner hit by the attacking team unless the ball has been stopped motionless on the ground by one of the attacking team, or has touched the person or stick of one ot the defending team before the last stroke of the attacking team. A player hitting a penalty corner hit cannot participate in the game again until the ball has been played by another player. On hitting a penalty corner hit, if the hitter miss the ball'he shall take the hit, again, provided he does not contra vene Rule 13.
