TURNIP-GROWING COMPETITION. The judges, Messrs G, R. Sykes and Joseph made their award in connection with the turnipgrowing competition. The crops grown were exceptionally good ones. The following were the first and second prize-takers, the competition being for the best field of turnips, flat or ridged; area to be not not less than three acres; first prize £2, second £l:—First prize, Messrs Gray Bros., weight of crop per acre, 42 tons 14cwt. lqr; pokits for weight of crop per acre (possible 50), 42 points; quality of crop, (possible's points), 18 points. 5 evenness of crop (possible 10 points), 9 points; cultivation and cleanliness of ground (possible 15 points). 11 points; total points, 80. Second prize, Mr Wm. Perry,"weight of crop per acre, 37tons 17cwt. Bqrs; points, 33; quality of crop, 18 points; evenness ot crop, 7 points; cultivation and cleanliness of 13 points; total 71 points.
