BOROUGH ENGINEER'S REPORT.
At a meeting of the Borough Works and Finance Committee, on Tuesday, April 20th, the Town Clerk and Borough Engineer reported inter alia:—Owing to complaints made I have in my discretion put in hand a few chains of rough path and road formation in Cockburn street at its intersection with South road. A rough consolidation ot a portion of Cole street and Kenall street, thereabouts 34 chains has been effected at a cost of £27, equal to 15s per chan. lam proceeding with a similar treatment of Essex street and Cole street extension, and the remaining porton of Pownall street to George street as rapidly as possible, and at the same time am putting the footpaths in an improved condition. The Borough not being supplied with suitable tipping slop carts, it is found in practice that in the winter season it is impossible to remove the wet slurry fron the several streets as it is swept. The difficulty of removal can be overcome by the purchase of suitable slop carts with an iron tipping body, and I advise the Council to purchase one or two of these articles without delay, two because one is in my opinion is sufficient to cover the ground, or to meet the demands to be made upon it. The headworks are in a satisfactory condition, there being «n abundance of good water available for the purposes of the inhabitants. I am pleased to report now the summer is over that during the whole of the hot weather the maximum possible presaure was available, and that the supply was ample with an overflowing reservoir, and of an excellent character. The sewage purification, works are in a satisfactory condition.
