Special Advertisements. JOHN HUNTER'S PLATFORM. I AM of the opinion that a general rate of 2d in the pound will be ample for all reasonable requirements during the present year. Last year's rate of 2Jd is unnecessary. Last year's water rate of £2,800 was far beyond actual requirements, a sum of £I,OOO being left in credit on the 31st nf March last. I estimate that sum of £I,OOO this year will cover all necessary exD2nditure. Now that our loan money is practically exhausted, it is desirable to exercise the strictest vigilancs over all expenditure, so that ordinary revenue may be made to provide for all necessary works. I believe that a reduction of 5d per thousand feet could be at once conceded on the price of the gas, and that when the new buildings are completed a further reduction of sd, • making lOd m all, could be safely made. If elected, I should propose to make such arrangements for the collection of rates that there would be no occasion for the Council to take out. an excessive number of summonses. JOHN HUNTER.

MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. A FTER careful consideration, I have decided to contest the election for Mayor. 'I had decided to retire, for private reasons, from municipal politics, but the present Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) having practically insisted upon my contesting the elestion with him, I have groat pleasure in doing so. I can assure you that if I have the honour t~> b.3 returned the whole of my time and the best of my ability will be cheerfully given to the rat epayers. 1 remain, Your obedient servant, JOHN HUNTER. BOROUGH ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. LADIES AND GEN TLE ii EN,—I liave the honour to again offer uiysell' as a candidate for the position of Cc uncillor at the coming election If you think my services during the pa-t two years have been such as lo wairant yo ir confidence for a further term, I shall be pleased to give my best service? in the interests of the town. lam opposed to any further increa c e in the rates, aud will continue to assist in the advancement of the Borough as far as it is cjmpatable with careful administration. W. PRAQNELL.

MUNICIPAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OP THE BOEOUGH OF MASTEETON. r ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,—I am i again a candidate for a seat in the Council. I take a great interest in the progress of the town, more especially in the improvement of the Park and of the Gas Works. I would like to lend a hand to complete these undertakings. 1 believe that when the new gas works are finished the pries of gas can be lowered to consumers. JAMES ELLIOTT. COUNCIL ELECTION.

TO THE ELECTOE3. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,-! am again a candidate for a si at in the Borough Council. In soliciting your support I need only say that, if elected, I will do my utmost to assist in the furtherance of your interests. 1 pledge myself to oppose any increase in rates. The people do not want any additioLal burden placed on them at the present time. JOSEPH PRENTICE. BOROUGH ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. ' ADIES AND GENTLEMEN,—In ' response to a generally exprossedwish, I again offer my service a.., a Councillor. Masterton, in general with other towns in the Dominion, is suffering through the prevailing depression; and every effort should be made by the new Council to lighten the burden that is at present pressing very heavily upon ratepayers. I am strongly of the opinion that with economy and careful administration a general rate of 2d on the present valuation is sufficient for all requirements for the next two years at 1 ist. If yon honour me with your confidence, as in the past, I shall do my best ii your interests and for the welfare of or.i town. F. W. TEMPLE.
