NEW ZEALAND FINANCE.
At a social gathering at ISangiriri, Mr Massey, Leader of the Opposition,. said r in respect to finance, that no details of the present position of New Zealand were yet available, but tremendous changes had arisen during the last few months. Until recently good prices had been obtainable for wool and produce, but now money was dearer than it had been for the last fifteen or twenty years. Investors in the Post Office Savings Bank seldom thought of what became of their money. It wis being, continually borrowed from by the Government, but a check must even now come to that. For two out of four quarters of the Last financial year, the withdrawals had exceeded the deposits, and the Minister for Finance would now have to find some other source from which to borrow. The surplus for the financial year ending March 31st,. Mr Massev estimated, would probably be reduced from £BOO,OOO to under £200,000.
