WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following report was submitted by the Engineer, (Mr G. H. Herbert), at the meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council on Saturday last: — Belvedere Riding. General repairs have been carried out to several of the roads in the riding and the grader has been employed raking in metal. A start has been made cleaning out water-tables and clearing the mouths of culverts. Maungatere Valley Road has [been patched and the drains cleaned out. I have inspected Booth's Road, and 1 would recommend that it be lormed. The cutting-up of the Carrington Estate ha 3 increased the traffic on this road, and it is at the present in a bad state. Owing to the span being too great the roof of the shed at the County yard sagged so as to hold the rain under. I have had in fixed up. Tenders have been called for the stumping of Bishops' Roid. The forming of this road could be done by the permanent staff. The . work of metalling Chester Road is° proceeding. Park vale Riding. The grader has been on the Main Road North anc cleaned out fhe water-tables from the Borough boundary to the Clareville store. .The deepening of the drain on this road opposite Sievers,' is being carried ouc. Runners have been put on the bridge on Moreton Road. General repairs have been effected to East Taratahi Road. Tenders have been called for the delivery of 500 yards of metal' on the Gladstone Road- Patching has been done on the Main Road North. Dalefield Riding. The water-tables have been cleaned on Dalefield Road, and the drain cleaned out. Watersun's Road has received similar attention. Metal has been raked in on Joseph's, Waterson's and Dalefield Roads, also the Main Road South. I would recommend that the unformed portion of the Swamp Ruad be formed shortly. Very little requires to be done to complete this road. The water-tanle on Waihakeke Road has been piped. The old timber culvert at the junction of Waihakeke Road and the Main Road has been repaired. A culverc on Moffat's Road has been repaired. Hodder's Road has been graded and water-tables thrown out and a light coat of metal put on. The new groin which the settlers put in above the Waiobine Bridge has scoured out. Maungaraki Riding. Quarrying work has be?n done on the Maungaraki Hill, and the County horse and cart kept busy patching the Admiral Road. General repairs have been carried out and the watertables cleaned. The grader has been on Brooklyn Road. Aplin's contract at Ponatahi is finished. The ford on the Ponatahi Road has been fixed up. General. The netting for the head work for I the races has been sent up, but ow-1 ing to the river rising the work could not be proceeded with. lam having half a ton of wire worked up into ! netting as I can forsee a considerable amount of groin work this winter.
