SONG RECITAL.

TO-MORROW AFTERNOON. Considerable interest is attaching to the song recital (by invitation) to be given on Wednesday afternoon, in the Foresters' Hall, Masterton, by Mrs H. J. T aplay, who has decided to become a resident in this town. Mrs Taplay has almost completely recovered from her recent indisposition, and when & representative of the Age called on her yesterday, he was treated to some very excallent singing, the 1 ady favouring him with several of the numbers which form Wednesday's programme. > Excepting a slight hoarseness, as j the result of her recent severe cold (and which by the way she is rapidly losing) on some of the lower notes, Mrs Taplay was in good voice. She has complete control of her vocal powers, abundantly evidenced by her rendering of Chaminade's dainty composition "Captive Love," in comparison with "Ave Maria," (Gounod), and the intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana" (Mascagni). Her voice is particularly sweet in the pianissimo passages, while it certainly does not lack power when necessity demands it. Her range is splendid, A's and B's being taken with comparative ease, and very clear and sweet, the lower notes rich and full on occasion. Those who have been favoured with invitations should not fail to attend, and in this connection we have to state that the invitations issued on a previous occasion hold good for Wednesday next. By special request Mrs Taplay will sing the Hitermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana," in place of Handel's "He Shall Feed His Flock."
