Special Advertisements. MAYORAL ELECTION. JOHN HUNTER Will Addess the Electors in the KURIPUNI HALL ON To-morrow (Tuesday) Evening on Municipal 'Affairs. Mr Hunter will speak immediately after Cr Yarr. JOHN HUNTER'S PLATFORM. I AM of the opinion that a general rate of 2d in the pound will be ample for all reasonable requirements during the present year. Last year's rate of 2£d is unnecessary. Last year's water rate of £2,800 was far beyond actual requirements, a sum of £I,OOO being left in credit on the 31st of March last. I estimate that sum of £I,OOO this year will cover all necessary expanditure^ Now that our loan money is practically exhausted, it is desirable to exercise the strictest vigilance over all expenditure, so that ordinary revenue may be made to provide for all necessary works.
I believe that a reduction of 5d per thousand feet could be at once conceded on the price of the gas, and that when the new buildings are completed a further reduction of sa, Joking JOd in all, could be safely madeJ If elected, I should propose to make such arrangements for thQ collection of rates that there would be no occasion for the Council to take out an excessive number of summonses. JOHN HUNTER. MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS. careful consideration, I have decided to contest the election for Mayor. I had decided to retire, for private reasons, from municipal politics, but the present Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) having practically insisted upon iny ccntjsting the election with him,} have great pleasure in doing so I can assure you tliat if I have the honour to be' returned the whole of iny time and the best of my ability will be cheerfully given to the ratepayers. 1 remain, Your obedient servant, JOHN HUNTER.
