FOOTBALL.
A football match was played on the Showgrounds, on Saturday last, between the Red Star and Carterton Seniors. Neither side was fully represented, the Red Star team beng noticeable for the number of Junior and Third-class players included in its ranks. Rain fell heavily during the whole of the game, which resulted in a win for Carterton by eight points (a goal and a try) to three points (a try scored by K. Welch). Mr W. Harding was referee.
"JThe annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Carterton on Saturday evening last. The following officers were sleeted for the ensuing jear:— Patron, Mr W. C. Buchanan; President, Mr W. P. James; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. M. Halley, W. Strang, J. McMaster, W. E. Bidwill, Dean McKenna; secretary, Mr J. M. Nicholls; treasurer, Mr E. McKenzie; auditors, Messrs H. Hart and L. Smart; Management Committee, Messrs B. Chapman, R. McKenzie, W. Hart, H. McKenzie, C. Reid, A. B. Charters, A. E. Booth; Appeal Committee, Messrs Cochrane, Beard, and Booth; senior selection committee, Messrs L. Williams, A. B. Charters, and C. Reid; junior selection committee, Messrs B. Iveson.J. Brunton, and J, Plenderson; delegates to New Zealand Rugby Union, Messrs Nicholls and Charters. The following nominations were received for the various competitions:—Senior.—Carterton, Red Star, Lower Valley, Greytown, Gladstone. Maserton were allowed a fortnight to see whether they could put a team in the field. Junior.—Red Star, Dalefield, Te Ore Ore, Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, and Featherston. Third Class.—Red Star, Masterton, Dalefield, Te Ore Ore, Clareville College, and Carterton. It was resolved to open the season on May 15th.
