(From Oar Resident Reporter). Saturday, ' Messrs Dalgety and Co. add fresh entries to their Tuesday's hale in the Mangahao road yards. The Mayoral and Municipal elections on Wednesday next are now the general theme of conversation -whereas about a fortnight ago matters in this connection were practically dead, until a well known citizen took the matter in hand, with the result that widespread interest has been created. There is a strong feeling in several of the districts about here that the cheese industry should be pushed along, and I understand that a movement is on foot amongst dairy farmers to this effect I was informed today by a well-known local authority that cheese at fivepence per lb was equal to 10.9 pence per lb of butter fat.

The opening football match'of the i season, a game between Dannevirke j and a local team took place on the ! Domain ground, this afternoon. The day was an admirable one for football, and a large number of spectators watched the game, which at toes was fast and interesting although neither side had its full team -in the field. Dannevirke had a good set of backs, who understood what io do with the ball when tney got it out, while Mangatainoka possessed a dashing lot of forwards, who, if they work together and get out of the fatal habit of hanging on to the ball too much, will make a splendid pack. At half time neither side had scored, although Dannevirke had a shot at goal from a penalty. In the second spell the local boys livened up and got on some good forward rushes, from one of which Bert Harvey, who played the best forward game on the ground, snapped up the leather, which after passing through several players' hands, was obtained by Morrison, who drew first [blood for Mangatainoka. Cresswell failed at the kick at goal. Shortly afterwards Lyle, from a similar rush, touched ''down for the local team. Murphy made a good kink at goal, but the Isather went a little wide. From this out Mangatainoka had much the best of the play, and nearly scored on several occasions. The game ended in 1 Mangatainoka's favour by six points to nil. H. Monteitb, Mulloney and" Drinkwater played good games for the losers, while most of the home team were at times conspicuous. M r Chatwin made a very impartial referee.
