THE MAYOR'S CHALLENGE.
(To the Editor). Sir,—ln reply to Cr Hunter's letter of 22nd inst., I am willing to meet that gentleman on Tuesday evening next. The Town Hall has been booked for every evening since Cr Hunter accepted my offer, but if Tuesday evening will suit him no doubt some other Hall can be obtained. If,, not, I am willing to meet him at Kuripuni. If he will i',et me know during the day, I will advertise the meeting in to-morrow morning's paper.—l am, etc., P. L. HOLLINGS.
(To the Editor). Sir,—The- Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings)' promised that if I consented to contest the election for Mayor with Mm that he would call a public meeting at which we would debate the Borough Council's administration for the past year. On Friday last I accepted the challenge, and on neither Friday nor Saturday dia the Mayor make any effort to comply with his promise. I now understand that he is willing to meet me on Tuesday night. Although I had arranged to speak at Kuripuni (where Cr Yarr also speaks) on Tuesday night, I am prepared ro meet him in any hall in Masterton that he may be able to procure, but 1 would point out that the Mayor's dilatoriness has not been fair to me. I would have met Mr Hollings with pleasure on Saturday night, but such an arrangement would, 1 suppose, have interfered with Cr Yarr's meeting.—l am, etc., JOHN HUNTER.
