WAIRARAPA HUNT CLUB.
OPENING "MEET." The opening run of the hunting season under the auspices of the Wairarapa Hunt Club took place yesterday, the weather conditions being perfect. There was an excellent attendance of huntsmen, as well as of the general pu c c. The President of the Club, and one of its most enthusiastic supporters (Mr W. Strang) accompanied by Mr N. H. James (secretary) drove out to witness the hunt, which started on the property of Mr C. Bannister, and went. through the properties of Messrs W. H. Buick, Fendall, and into Matahiwi, where the check was made. The hunt then followed down through the same properties, and ended at the homestead of Mr W. H. Buick, where afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Buick and a staff of assistants, and was greatly appreciated, The Woodlands Hunt Club was represented by Messrs Sweeney, Hunt and Avery. The hunt was laid by Mr R. Buick on Kiwi, and some stiff jumps had to be negotiated. Amongst those following were:—Mr W. Buick (Master) on Firestick, Mr R. Buick (Deputy Master) on Kiwi, Harold Welch (Huntsman) on Kahukura, B. Vallance (Hon. Whip) on Grey Dawn, P. Tilson on Wainui, S. Mason on Caroline, R. Douglas on Haka, N. Douglas on Atarangi, H. Huiit on Corroboree, J. Sweeney on Flamingo, N. Avery on Commodore, W. Vernon on Tui, J. Grant on Kuranui, | T. Smith on Garry, A. Kennedy on Case Whisky, L. Vallance on Buster | Brown, T. McCann on Bonny, F. Secombe on Golden Days, H. Douglas on Hawke's Bay, C. Bannister on See Saw. The next "nceet" will take place at the Taratahi on Thurdsay afternoon.
