WHOLESALE MURDER AT NOUMEA, A DASTARDLY ACT. RINGLEADER OF GANG SHOT. OTHER ACCUSED SENTENCED. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph Copyright. Received April 22, 11.45 a.m. SYDNEY, April 22. A series of crimes have been brought to light at Noumea by the trial of a number of persons for the murder of three men in the Vickel district. Pouembout and Kone, two of the victims, were shot, while their grass huts were on fire, and the third man was shot on the road. The object of the crime was to get possession of the money of the victims. One of the leaders, who was chief assassin of the band, was an Arab named Zermani. He was shot dead by the gendarmes. Another of the accused, named Arrighi, a Corsican, was sentenced to death. A man, named Santa Croce, who planned the crimes, and another, named Grimaqui, were sentenced to twenty years and ten years' imprisonment, respectively. A woman, named Poisin, who was concerned in the crime, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment.
