CHURCH UNION.
DISCUSSION AT MELBOURNE, POSITION OF CONGREGATIONALISMS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received April 21, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 21. At the half-yearly meeting of the Congregational Union, reference was made to the proposed union of churches. Dr Bevan thought the members should take a straightout course, and either say they were going into the sUbect or drop it, —"*• The president said the union's committee had decided not to meet until it received the reports of the Lambeth Conference. Dr Bevan replied:—"That conference has met; and we don't know ] where we are. Meanwhile some sort of negotiations were going on between the Anglicans the Presbyterians. The Anglicans' demand for a historic episcopate was unhistorical unchristian, illogical, and perfectly impossible. It was merely an ecclesiastical dodge to secure supremacy. It wasjjagreed that the committee should submit a motion at the October meeting.
