BOROUGH COUNCIL FINANCE.

THE, MAYOR'S OFFER. (To the Editor). Sir,—ln reply to the Mayor's offer in your paper to-day inviting me to contest the Mayoral seat with himself, I wish to state that 1 decided some two months ago not to stand for re-etection to the Council, and made the statement publicly in the Council Chamber, and I know of no reason up to the present why I should alter my 'decision. My previous offer to the Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) is still open, aud I shall be pleased to receive a definite reply from the Mayor at his earliest convenience, as I always realise that there are two sides to every question, and the ratepayers are entitled to hear both.—l am, etc., JOHN HUNTER. Masterton, April 19th.
