CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Saturday. There was a good attendance of volunteers at the parade last evening, when five recruits were sworn in. Captain Skey was in command, and with a view to popularising the corps, a parade will be held next Saturday evening, headed by the Brass Band. The programme committee of the South Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon, and Cage Bird Association met this afternoon, in the secretary's office. Last year's programme was revised, and it was decided, on account of the lateness of the season, not to include the class for a collection of school grown vegetables, but this, Ss well as a sheep dog trial for dogs in the Wairarapa electorate, will be added to next year's programme. j A friendly game of football between the Clareville Maori College and Carterton High School was played this afternoon; ending in a draw, each side scoring three points. Mr A. N. Burns was referee. The Collins benefit fund balance sheet shows that the total receipts by way of donations and concert were £75 lis 9d, of which £3O has been banded to Mrs C dlins, and the remainder (less sundry expenses) £3B 9s 9d remains in the bank. Mr V. Fairbrother was honorary secretary of the fund, and Messrs R. J. Chapman and J. IVoncrieff auditors. The Postal Departmentjhave advised the Chamber of Commerce that in future the Longbuah mail coach will leave Longbush at 7.40 a.m., instead ofß a.m., and will arrive at Gladstone at 8.40 a.m., where correspondence will be despatched to both Carterton and Masterton.
