THAT DREADNOUGHT MEETING.
Referring to the disgracetuJ scenes which occurred at the meeting held at Christchurch on Wednesday night last to discuss the Government's offer of a Dreadnought to the Imperial authorities the Christchurch "Press" says:—We hope that Mr T. E. Taylor is proud of his Socialist and pro-German friends and admirers, and . that the latter are proud of their dignified, Datriotic and intellectual performance at King Edward's Barracks. Mr Taylor would no doubt have u« , believe that he is not Tesponsible for the ill-bred and unintelligent hooliganism of his friends. But "noscitur sociis"— which we may freely translate, a man is known by the socialistic company he keeps. Mr Taylor was surrounded by his larrikin admirers?
they hailed him as their idol, and evidently thought that their conduct was likely to please him. We again challenge him tu submit himself to the constituents whose fair fame he has dragged in the mire by his telegram to Mr Asquith in which he used their name without their'warrant, by his speech at His Majesty's Theatre, and by the conduct uf his boon companions, for whose proceedings he must take his share of responsibility. If he grudges the expense of another contested election, we feel sure the money will be subscribed for him by his opponents if not by his friends. He dare not accept our challenge."
