PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. Mr J. D. Wilson has definitely decided to stand for Mayoral honours at the forthcoming election, and I understand on goon authority that a third party is also going to take the field, and intends to address the electors at. an early date. We are destined to a little excitement after all, and if talk can do anything, the Post Office will be shifted before the election takes place. The postponed cricket match between Mangatainoka and Kohunui will take place at 1.30 p.m. tomorrow, on the former's ground. , Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., met last evening, when routine business was transacted, and two candidates submitted for membership. It was decided to invite the members of the Foresters' Lodge to be present at the close of nest Lodge night, to a social evening. It was also decided to visit the Eketahuna Druids on June 7th. A splendid evening prevailed for the social in ihe Scarborough schoolhouse last evening. Good music wa3 suppled by Mr C. A. Burns gave a splendid recitation. A word of praise is due to Misses K. Quirk and Yule and Miss Bluett for assistance given at supper time. The committee, of whom Mr J. Vosper wa3 secretary, all worked hard to ensure the success of the function, and Mr J. Wilds made a capable M.C. HAMUA NOTES. ,MrF. P. Walkley, who has been in business here with his brother for the Isst four years, leaves to-morrow for Wellington, and sails by the s.s. Moeraki on the 2-j'rd inst., on a trip to the Old Country. Mr Walkley will stay a few days in Sydney. • The picnic held in Mr Payne's paddock io connection with the Anglican Sunday School on Tuesday last, was a great success, nearly all the residents of the district being present. Prizes were given to the children, and races for their benefit were run during the day. A very enjoyabe day's outing was concluded by a wellattended social in the Hamua Hall in the evening. The milk supply at the local cream ery, although diminishing, is keeping up wonderfully well for this time of the year. Feed is. fairly plentiful, and dairy farmers in this district have had a splendid season. The Rev. Mr Kitcat, of Eketahuna, conducted services in the schoolroom last evening. The Hamua Hotel, which was burnt down Che other evening, was the half-way stopping place In the old coaching days, before the railway line was completed between Eketahuna and Woodville.
