DEATH OF A JOCKEY.

By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 13. William O'Connell, rider of Stronghold in the Kildare Hurdles at the C.J.C. meeting on Monday, died this morning. At the inquest Edward Scoullar said that Stronghold failed to rise at the last hurdle, and fell in front of Snip, and rolled over the de-» ceased. Snip struck Stronghold, and also fell and rolled on the deceased. The reason why Stronghold did nofc rise at the hurdle was because he seemed to be tiring. The medical evidence was that'the deceased reached the hospital in an unconscious state, and remained set tiirdeath at 5 a.m. to-day. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
