CHARITABLE AID BOARD CONTRIBUTIONS.

MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL » TAKES ACTION. At the meeting of the Masterton County Council yesterday afternoon a letter was read from the Hon. A. W. Hogg in connection with the United Charitable Aid Board's action ir. making the Victoria Hospital, an institution managed by the Wellington Hospital Trustees, a charge on the general rate. The proceeding was irregular, but they had the right of appeal. He asked the Council what was the use of being represented on a Board where the representatives were entirely helpless. The chairman said he did did not think it wise to attempt to withdraw their representatives. At the same time he thought it must be very annoying to be treated as the country members had been over the mutter. He moved a resolution dissenting against the inclusion of the Hospital in the estimatss, which was carried unanimously. The Eketahuna County Council also wrote asking if the Council intended to take any action in objecting to the inclusion of the Victoria Hospital in the Charitable Aid Board estimate. The matter was also fully discussed by the Finance Committee in the ifiorning, at which two important resolutions were carried. Th,e first was on the motion of Cr Foreman, Seconded by Cr Miller, and was as follow: —"That it Ibe an instruction to the cl§rk to withhold payments o£ the Charitable Aid Board contribution until the quescidß of objection to the inclusion of ,£I,BOO for (he Victoria Home for Chronic Invalids in the Charitable Aid Soafu's demand has been settled." The second resolution, on the fn0 a tion of the chairman, seconded by" Cr Foreman, was—"That it be a recommendation to the Council to pass a resolution dissenting from the demand of the Wellington and Wairarapa United District Charitable Aid Board for the year ending March 31st, 1910, on the ground of the inclusion therein of the sum of £I,BOO of the Victoria Home for incurables. !
