UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 11. The eighth annual tournament of he New Zealand University Association was commenced at Wellington yesterday. In the morning a civic reception was accorded to the visiting students by"Mr J. P. Luke, M.P. Teeming rain prevented the carrying out of the Tennis ':, Championships, which were to have been commenced. In the evening the debating contest was held, and resulted in a win for Victoria College (D. S. Smith and G. H. Gibb). This makes the fourth consecutive win for Victoria College. The Otago University speakers (J. C. Robinson and W. H. Pettit) were little behind the winners. Should the weather be at all fine to-morrow a start will be made with the tennis in the morning, and the athletic championships will be held in the afternoon.
