Another great milk and butter record has been established, this time by a five-year old Jersey cow under test by the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station. This test exhibits the greatest record of both milk and butter fat of any Jersey that has yet finished a year's authenticated fat test. Adelaide of Beechlands 168,699 is the name and pedigree number of the cow. She was calved on March 16th, 1902, and commenced the year's test just finished on November 25. 1907, and closed at November 24, 1908.' Previous to this test she had made a record of 435 pounds 4.7 ounces fat, 8,363 pounds 12.8 ounces milk, in a year's authenticated test ended June 30, 3 905, and was then entered in the Class A Register of Merit on this record with a score of 88.5 per cent of the perfection scale of points The test just j closed lasted for 3G6 days. Her average percentage of fat for the I year was 5,4 >6. She produced j 15,571, pounds of milk and 849.62 ! pounds of fat which was equivalent j to 99 pounds 8.9 of 85 j per cent fat. It takes a Jersey cow j and a good one, to exhibit such a j ! combination. Her yield averages j per month 1,297.7 Ids. milk, 70.8 j lbs. fat and 83 pel cent butter, and | averaged per day 42.55 pounds milk, ! 2.323 pounds fat, and 2.74 pounds 83 per cent butter, fcr the entire j year. This cow is owned by W. S. ! Ladd, of Portland, Oregon, and it j will be of interest to note the feed | consumed while making this record, I which is as follows: 942 pounds | bran, 638 pounds crushed oats, 268.5 pounds oil meal 1,425 pounds ' cut alfalfa hay 1.646 pounds clover hay, 1,208 pounds carrots, 7,445 pounds kale, and five months on pasture. Previous to the completion of this test the champion Jersey record of the world was held by Jacoba Irene, owped by A. O. Auten, Illinois, Her record for one year fullows: Milk, 14,254 pounds; average test, 5.6 per cent; fat, 798.48 pounds. While the above are champion Jersey records they are not the champion dairy records, this distinction going to the Holstei.i cow, Colanthe 4th's Johanna, whose record for one year follows: Milk, 27,432.5 pounds average test, 3.64 per cent; fat, 998,.26 poundb. This cow is owned by W. J. Gillelt, of Wisconsin. The champion Ayrshire cow of the world is Rena Ross, owned by John R. Valentine, Pennsylvania. Her record for one year is as follows: Milk, 15,072 pounds; average test, 4.26 per cent; fat 643.2 pounds. The Rietbrock Estate Wisconsin, are the owners of the world's champion Guernsey cow. Her record for one year follows: Milk. 14,920,8 pounds; average test, 5.74 per cent; fat, 857.15 pounds.
