Tke opening match of the season 'between Mnkuri and Rakanui was played in the best of spirits, and at times the game was fairly fast mid interesting to watch from a spectator's point of view. For Rakanui tries w§re scored by Bambry and Weatherly, H. West kicking a goal. In the back division all played well, Connor and West Bros, being most conspicuous, while C. McKenzie was the most dashine forward on the ground. For Makuri, Pilkingtori Bros, played sterling games, B. Pilkington succeeding in crossing the line, but the try was not converted. Mr G. Haines, of Pongaroa, bancfied the whistle in a smart and impartial manner.
In the evening the visitors were treated to a dinner by the Makuri team, and atter -full justice was done to the many good things provided an adjournment was made to the Hall, wire a smoke concert was held, Mr Haines, as chairman, keeping things going in a happy vein right throughout tte evening.
