THE COMMONWEALTH DEFENCE SCHEME.
Received April 9, 12.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, April 9. The Ministar of Defence estimates that the preparatory cost of the new military defence scheme will be £580,000, and cost of first year £1,200,000 ;second,£l,24B,ooo; third, £1,301,000; fourth, £1,352,000. The naval scheme would cost the first y«?ar £817,000; second, £1,092,000; third, £72,000.
