EASTER HOLIDAYS.

(To The Editor.) Sir, —For tnirty years past it has been my lot to reside in Masterton, and inter alia, I have noticed the growth from its inception of that very prosperous firm —the W.F.C.A. —which, in my opinion, stands on the pinnacle of eminence as a sound business concern. Up till th<3 present year all the other business firms of the town have carefully endeavoured to emulate its actions and treated it as the ruler of all extraordinary holidays which presented themselves. The firm in question have religiously steered in one stereotyped groove, and refused its employees, on every occasion, any more than the statutory holidays at Easter the plea that it would matsrially affect business, and more particularly their country customers. This year proved no exception to the rule, for I observe an adverisementin your columns to the effect that they will open on Easter Saturday—as usual. Immediately above there appears a notice, signed by nearly every other business firm of the town, announcing their intention to close on Easter Saturday for the purpose of granting their empoyees an extend ?d respite from their daily toil from Thursday night till Tuesday morning. As this is practically the only extended holiday between now and Christmas, I think the latter are to be commended for their action in thus considering their employees and ignoring the ruling of the managers of the W.F.C.A. In my opinion it is showing a wrong spirit on the part of the oldest, and well-to-do firm, to adopt the attitude they are pursuing—ignoring the fifty odd other firms, and debarring their employees from participating in similar pleasure to the other firms' employees. Surely it is not too late, even now, for the managers of the W.F.C.A. to reconsider their error of judgment, ana fall into line with the other business firms of the town. Trusting this will have the. desired effect, and thanking you in anticipation. —I am, etc., OLD RESIDENT.
