CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Tuesday.
Next Friday week a concert is to be given here by the pupils of the District High School. The object is to raise funds to liquidate a debt on the piano lecently placed in the school at a cost of £22.
The Masterton Friendly Societies' Council has invited the Carterton Societies to assist in the Hospital demonstration on Sunday, May 2nd.
A painful accident befel Mr F. Stempa a few days ago, at Gladstone, when assisting to throw a young horse. The animal kicked out, and caught Mr Stempa on the head, stunning him, and inflicting a severe wound. Mr Stempa was driven to his home here, where Dr Johnston put several stitches in the wound. The patient is now doing as well as can be expected. Heavy ram on the hills last evening was responsible for the Waiohine river overflowing its banks near the Black Bridge, and for some time the floor of Mr J. McGuinness' residence was a foot under water. Mr Williams' house was also nearly flooded. Mr Heald, our local stationmaster, resumed duty this morning, after hid annual holiday.
