WON BY A FRENCHMAN.
INTERNATIONAL CONTEST.
Received April 5, 8.20 a.m. NEW YORK, April 4. The Marathon Derby at New York drew forty thousand spectators.' Saint Yves, a French runner, won the 5,000 dollars prize (£1,000), Dorando, the Italian, securing the second prize of 2,500 dollars (£500). Longboat, Shrubb, Hayes, and Mat Maloney—all well-known long distance runners—also ran.
