CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Castiepoint; County Council was held un Saturday list: at L'mui. Ail the , members were "present. A letter was received from Messrs Stilborn Bros., making a claim for some sheep missing from a paddock in which roadmen had been quarrying stone. The council declined to admit any liability on account of the missing sheep. The V"aluer-G..neral wrote re subsidy, and drawing attention to the "Consolidated Act, 1908," in reference to authority to make and levy general rates. The Wellington and Waifn?•<•? 7;a Charitable AiJ Co:u--' forwards; a statement of assets arid .liabilities together with istimat».s and apportionment for the year ISO 9 10. Judge Eclger advised that the compensation awarded to the natives for land taken for a road through lot 3a, Whakataki, had been dealt with and the order could be obtained from the Registrar. S The Valuer-General wrote authorising in alteration of the District Valuation Roll, in Messr3 Mauusells' Te'iui property. j The Treasury advised the pay - j ment of £2OO grant of £1 for £1 for the W hakataki-Castlepoint road. It was decided to put in some stone groins lo protect the croesirg of.the Whakaiaki creek below , Mr. Harvey's homestead, md put s 1 < culvets in the road near L'astlepoint, and repair the road in ihe Tinui Valley. The Treasurer reported a credit balance on the general account of £686 8s lid, aid on the loan account of £42. Accounts amounting to £283 2s 8d were passed for payment. Councillor Innes gave notice to move at the next • meeting that steps be " taken to increase the number of ridings in the County fro m three*to four.
