MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held on Saturday, the 27th March. There were present: Crs. P. W. 11. Ku-nmer, (chairman), C. Forsberg, H. J. Dagg, C. Churchill Jackson, J. E. Perry, and 0. Isakson. The Receiver of Land Revenue forwarded schedule oi hypothecated thirds. Mr T. Strawbridge offered to lease reserve No. 180, Block XIII, Mangaone. It was pointed out that this had been leased to Mr Weston, and that it would be necessary for him to surrender the lease betore it could be transferred to Mr Strawbridge. The clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Weston on the matter. Mr C. Burton wrote directing attention to the need for repairs oi the Mt. Bruce Road. Arrangements have been made to get the defects attended to. The secretary to the Hastwell Sawmill Company wrote asking permission to cross Bowen Road wich a tramway. Cr. Isakson was appointed to deal with the application. Mr D. Christie wrote pointing out that the Government had done a conof work recently on the Mangatainoka Valley Road, and the Department was prepared to do more, provided the Council effected some preliminary repairs to the formation. He urged the Council to take the matter up, as unless the repairs referred to were done, the full benefit of the present Government expenditure would not be obtained. Cr. Isakson was appointed to ( inquire into the matter, and if advisable to get the repairs carried out. The Hon. Mr Hogg, the district representative on the United ChariBoard, wrote pointing out the unsatisfactory position of the County representatives at the recent annual meeting of the Board, they being quite outnumbered by the city members, and could only protest against charging the general fund with the maintenance of the Victoria Home—practically a Wellington Institution. He asked the Council to consider whether it was advisable to continae to be represented on a Board where its delegates are in a helpless minority. In consequence of representations made to the Council it was resolved to hold a special meeting on the sth April at 2 p.m., to deal with the sale of limestone in the road reserve at the Limestone Hill. The overseer notified the completion of the bridge on the Mangaorouga Road. Accounts amounting to £272 10s 8d were passed for payment.
