CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Thursday. The Rev. W. W. Avery .will preach his farewell sermon in the local Methodist Church on Sunday morning next. At the recent conference he was transferred to Hawera. The local Lodge of Oddfellows last evening decided to take no part in the Masterton Friendly Society's seven-aside football tournament, in connection with the Hospital Sunday Demonstration, owing to the lack of football enthusiasts in the Lodge. Elaborate preparations are being made for the harvest festival to be held on Sunday in the Methodist Church at Dalefield. The service will be conducted by the Rev. W. W. Avery, of Greytown. Mrs W. J. Elliott, accompanied by her daughter, left yesterday on a holiday visit to Te Aroha. Messrs C. Billman vWoodville) and C. Callender (Petotie), both at one time on the railway staff here, have been transferred to Auckland. The Hmemoa Ladies' Hockey Club has been presented with a trophy by Mr H. Keltie, to be awarded to the most improved and deserving player. There were thirty-three births, ten marriages, and six deaths here during the quarter just ended. A pleasant little ceremony took place at the Central Store last evening, when Miss Daisy McFarlane, was presented with a peggy bag and cut glass scent bottle from her companions, as a mark of J Jesteem upon severing her connection with the firm. The local Bowling Clubjintend holding its usual Easter tournament.
